Symposium
Speaker

Rukiya Colvin

they/them
Project Manager,
Sidewalk Detroit

Rukiya (they/them) is a queer abolitionist, organizer, activist, and
writer. They allude their love + dedication to fostering intentional community to their lived experience as a lifelong Detroiter, growing through institutional space to obtain a masters in urban planning, and continuously being challenged by those they remain accountable to in their work and passions.

As an agent of change, they believe in the importance of centering the voices of those who often go misheard or misrepresented. This belief is manifested as practice through The Solutionaries Collective, a publication and community space they manage and are a founding member of. They also bring their beliefs and practice into their work at Sidewalk Detroit where they are the project manager who focuses on community engagement. When joy + pleasure is centered, they can be found enjoying the beauties of nature, spending time with their son and other loved ones, or simply resting.
