Jeanette Pierce

she/her
President,
City Institute

Jeanette Pierce is a social entrepreneur, storyteller and lifelong city of Detroit resident.

Since 2005, she has used experiential storytelling tours to help more than 150,000 locals and newcomers in Detroit understand and appreciate the city so residents and stakeholders can be better equipped at building an equitable and thriving future.

She founded the City Institute to share lessons learned with other cities. Through her Sought-After City program she helps cities attract & retain talent by making sure people feel connected to where they live & work. When people care about where they live they are more likely to stay in that community and invest in it by supporting small businesses, volunteering at nonprofit organizations, and collaborating with neighbors to make it a better place for all.

She was honored as one of the Top 50 Women Leaders of Michigan in 2022, as one of the Top Forty under 40 by Crain’s Detroit Business as well as many other recognitions and awards.
