Christopher Locke

Co-Founder/CEO - Board Member,
Designing in Color - CicLAvia

Christopher is a passionate Black designer, spatial advocate, and public speaker, driven by his deep-rooted Jamaican heritage and a commitment to redefining architecture and design. He challenges conventional practices in the field, using design as a tool for equity, liberation, and systemic change. As Co-founder and CEO of Designing in Color (DCo), an award-winning collective of architects and designers, Christopher seeks to transform how architecture is taught and practiced, amplifying the voices of marginalized communities historically silenced in the design process.

Working throughout the country, DCo is committed to the pursuit of justice in the built environment for historically marginalized black and brown communities through community organizing, racial justice workshops and socially responsible design.

Christopher also employs filmmaking to explore critical social issues, such as the housing crisis in Los Angeles. He is also a board member of CicLAvia a non-profit that catalyzes vibrant public spaces, active transportation, and good health through car-free streets. On the board he represents the organization’s interest in keeping and place making for Angelenos for generations to come.

As a creative visionary, he believes in reshaping design processes to place Black and Brown voices at the forefront of innovation, ultimately building a more just society and deconstructing racism in the built environment.
